Certain nutritional supplements and drugs may cause adverse reactions during or after injectables, including prolonged bleeding. To decrease prolonged bruising and swelling, please discontinue the use of the following one week prior to injection and three days after injection:
PRE-TREATMENT
- Alcohol consumption must be avoided 72 hours before treatments.
- Smoking is not recommended
- Discontinue taking aspirin, high doses of Vitamin E even in your multi-vitamin, St. Johns Wart, diet pills, MAO inhibitors, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (i.e.: Ibuprofen) for up to three days prior to treatments. Ingestion to any of these can increase bleeding time and increase the chance of bruising.
- Its recommended to avoid the consumption of Energy drinks, Jamba juice, herbal drinks, Bilberry, Cayenne, Dong Quai, Echinacea, Fever Few, Fish Oil, Garlic, Ginger, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, Hawthorne, Kava Kava, Licorice Root, Ma Huang (ephedra), Melatonin, Red Clover, Valerian, Yohimbe
- If a cold sore or active infection is present in an area of treatment, postponement of injection treatment is recommended until the lesion/infection has resolved.
- To improve the results of your procedure and speed the healing process; Dr. Reichner recommends the following vitamins and supplements:
- Alpine Pharmaceuticals Sinnech tablets can be consumed 24 hours prior to treatment to decrease the likelihood of bruising. However, there is no guarantee that bruising and/or swelling will not occur. Therefore, it is highly recommended to schedule injections at least one to two weeks prior to a special event.
- VitaMedica BROMELAIN WITH QUERCITIN: Start three days before injection Note: BROMELAIN is contraindicated in patients with a history of arrhythmias; who are taking blood thinners such as Coumadin; or who have allergies to pineapples.
POST-TREATMENT
- If you have a history of cold sores, a prescription can be provided for you to minimize the likelihood of an occurrence post-treatment.
- Sinnech tablets can be consumed as directed post-treatment to decrease the likelihood of bruising or swelling. However, there is no guarantee that bruising and/or swelling will not occur.
- Keep injection sites clean. Avoid touching the injection sites within six hours following the treatment. Ice can be used to help reduce swelling for a brief period.
- Smoking pre or post-treatment could increase the chances of complications.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, consumption of alcoholic beverages, and extended exposure to sun or heat.
- Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. Johnβs Wart, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements for up to 3 days after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
- Patients may need to massage injection sites for dermal fillers only. Botox or Dysport injections are not to be massaged. Dr. Reichner will provide correct techniques and instructions if needed. (ie: Juvederm, Versa, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, Sculptra, Artefill etc.) Sculptra Patients: Massage should follow the 5-5-5 rule: 5 minutes, at least 5 times per day, for at least 5 days.
