Sculptra – Why It Works and How It’s NOT a Filler
Sculptra is an injectable product used to treat moderate and harsh age lines, restore lost volume, and improve facial contours. It is an excellent non-surgical option for any person who wants to look younger while avoiding going under the knife.
Many people lump it in with other popular dermal filler products, assuming it’s just another injectable soft-tissue filler. However, Sculptra is actually something else entirely: a collagen stimulator.
Collagen stimulators are different from dermal fillers in a variety of ways, making Sculptra stand out from the numerous other cosmetic injectables on the market.
Sculptra: An Injectable Collagen Stimulator
While most volume-restoring injectables are composed of hyaluronic acid, Sculptra is instead made of a synthetic substance called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA).
Both of these substances work in different ways. Synthetic hyaluronic acid bonds with water molecules to create new volume in the skin tissues. The product itself is what creates the volume, and so when the product is slowly absorbed by the body, the volume fades.
PLLA has a very different mechanism of action. This substance encourages the body to create more fibroblasts in the deep dermal skin layer. Fibroblasts are cells that make collagen protein, which plays a major role in skin health, structure, and elasticity.
When PLLA causes more fibroblasts to be created, this leads to a gradual and natural increase in collagen in the skin. As a result, skin volume is improved by the body’s own natural collagen, smoothing away age lines and filling in facial depressions. When the product disappears, the youthful results remain.
Just three to four Sculptra treatment sessions are enough to boost the production of collagen protein. It’s best to wait three weeks between each treatment session.
Sculptra’s Results Appear Gradually Over Time
One of the main benefits of dermal fillers is that they provide instant results. This makes them an excellent option for upcoming social engagements where you need to look your best.
However, for patients who prefer incredibly natural-looking results, Sculptra is the ideal choice. Its changes appear gradually, subtly enhancing your features over time. Patience is key with Sculptra, and its benefits are worth the wait.
Once Sculptra has been injected, your face will look fuller for a day before reverting back to its normal state. The real results of Sculptra will appear within two weeks to a month, depending on the amount injected and the severity of your wrinkles. Results continue to improve over the course of two to six months.
Many clients prefer Sculptra because of its long-lasting benefits. The results of traditional injectable facial fillers can last for anywhere from six to eighteen months. Sculptra provides results for two to three years, sometimes even longer.
